Aviation GPS Technology

Global positioning system (GPS) is a great technology that was invented by the US military for the purpose of a military navigation system though its popularity grew and expanded to include everyone. It consists of a network of 27 satellites that orbit the earth for which 24 are functional while the other 3 are extra just in case one fails. When people refer to GPS they actually are meaning the GPS receiver, which obtains distance and other pertinent information from four or more of these orbiting satellites. This is especially helpful for Airplane GPS which provides pilots with critical information, including alerting any changes in weather conditions.

Garmin Aviation GPS is a portable handheld GPS unit that can contain various aviation tools like terrain alerting, airport positioning, situational awareness, obstacle database and even can include a pilot log book or a calculator for flight time and can be navigated by air, land or sea.

Advancement in aviation GPS technology is especially valuable for pilots in helping to fly airplanes safely.
